CAN Bus (Controller Area Network)

What is it?

The CAN bus (Controller Area Network) is the central nervous system of a modern vehicle. It is a communication network that allows all the different electronic components (ECUs) in the car to talk to each other without a central host computer.

How it works

Imagine a busy highway where every car is a piece of data. The engine control unit broadcasts its RPM, the wheel sensors broadcast their speed, and the battery management system broadcasts the State of Charge. All this data travels along the CAN bus wires. Any component that needs a specific piece of information simply "listens" to the bus and grabs the data it needs.

Why it matters

The CAN bus is what makes modern cars smart. It allows the anti-lock braking system to talk to the engine, or the climate control to talk to the battery. For developers and fleet managers, the CAN bus is a goldmine of highly accurate, real-time data about the vehicle's health and performance.

The Aximote Advantage

Because Aximote runs natively on Android Automotive OS, it has secure, read-only access to specific data streams on the CAN bus. This means Aximote doesn't estimate your mileage or energy consumption; it reads the exact, unalterable numbers directly from the vehicle's internal network, guaranteeing unmatched precision.
